fasting with a slant....

Listen, here's what I think. I think that we can't go around... measuring our goodness by what we don't do. By what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude.

I think... we've got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create... and who we include....

(Quote from 'Chocolat')

I had been thinking along these lines after realizing how caught up I can so easily get in things that I 'mustn't have' or 'shouldn't do'. All too quickly a spiritual discipline becomes stake to which I have bound myself rather than a step towards freedom in worship. And so I have decided that my next period of fasting is going to be characterised by 'doing' something positive rather than 'not doing' something'

We'll see how it goes!
