Last week Thailand's capital Bangkok switched off its lights for 15 minutes in an attempt to raise awareness about global warming. The city releases more than 26 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the air each year - nearly 20% of Thailand's total CO2 emissions. City officils launched the 'Lights-out campaign' to persuade residents to change their lifestyle and reduce electricity consumption. Thousands gathered for the countdown and applauded as the city went dark.
